We need your votes!

It’s that time! We entered this year’s Martha Stewart American Made competition for the chance to win anything from a gift basket full of goodies to $10,000 for our business and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to New York for the expo to display our work. You can go directly to our profile here:

I’ve had a late start reminding everyone of the competiton, because Mom’s been recovering from a knee replacement. It’s been almost three weeks, and though they made mistakes at the hospital with her medications, and she’s had a bad reaction to the pain meds they prescribed her, she’s finally feeling better and on her way to rehabilitation! We’re both excited to start building up our business after a long road of health struggles and other obstacles, and look forward to having our own studio workspace together.

We’ll keep you updated on the voting process, and if we win, we’ll share every step of the way with you. Please share the link to our profile with your friends – thank you for voting!

First show of the season – Art Hunger

Just wanted to share some pictures of our first show of the season, and our first show representing our newest shop, JuJu Eyeball!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The day was slow (we guessed that about 20 customers passed by our booth,) due to little advertising, a festival down the street blocking traffic, and an electrical outage issue on the block. We did make some new vendor friends, and made a couple of great contacts with customers! Mom sold a couple of her sand castings and that was it, but the booth fee was very inexpensive. We ended up spending a little money on ourselves and for Christmas presents, and my husband (while running home to get the purse I forgot, and the wallet he didn’t realize he left at home until he was on his way back) brought one of our good friends back with him, so we ended up having a great time.

Fruits and Feathers of Our Labor

I nearly forgot to share the fruits of our labor for our new friend Tiinia’s wedding! Mom did an amazing job on the fascinators, fans and bouts. My amount of work paled in comparison, but I embroidered the bride’s vintage hanky and made her bracelet. (The only two good shots I have of our work right now are a little blurry – oops!)

The wedding was wonderful and we had an absolute blast talking, eating, and dancing the night away!

Vintage Clothing Photo Shoots!

Vintage Lady Duff Dress & Hat. Photo by Evelyn Murphy of Luminosity.

Fascinator by Buy Me Love. Photo courtesy of Misti of Van Zandt Studios.

We are so, so excited to work with the fabulous makeup artist, Tiinia Auler, her beautiful model friends, and photographers like Evelyn and Misti, who have a passion for vintage pieces and want to do them justice.

We met Tiinia at the last show we did, and she placed a couple of custom orders with us for her wedding. As she got to know us, she realized the extent of our vintage obsession (we’re talking closets full, y’all.) So, she asked if she could feature some items from our collection along with some of our handmade accessories and jewelry in the upcoming photo shoots she was working on. Of course, we said yes! These are the results from the first couple of sessions – click the photos to go to the photographers’ Facebook albums and see more.

Obviously, if you’re in Texas, we highly recommend Tiinia for hair and makeup! Her work is impressive, and she uses her knowledge of fashion makeup, beauty makeup, and even special effects, to create the exact looks her clients want – from wedding days to haunted houses. She’s sweet, punctual, and has a great work ethic, including sincere customer service.

Whatever Weekend – Fancy Hair Wear

Mom has been working her patootie off creating new headbands, hair clips and fascinators! We’ll be listing them throughout the week, so keep your eyes peeled.

Here’s the first in the spring/summer line:

Click the pic to see silly pictures of me wearing this fabulous headband!

This one was inspired by vintage swim caps (and an authentic vintage feather headband Mom used to have.) Each feather is hand curled, and the headband is line with soft black velvet ribbon. You’ll see lots of bright colors and whimsy in our shop within the next week!

Whatever Weekend – I do – Do You Do YouTube?

I am so behind the times. Maybe it’s all this fascination with vintage that’s got me lagging on the social media front, but I’ve had a YouTube account for a long time now that I’ve never used. So, a few days ago, I thought, “Why not create a channel for BML?” After a couple of days of figuring out Windows Movie Maker and the ins and outs of Youtube …

I present to you, our first promo video for Buy Me Love! Major brownie points for you if you share this on FB, twitter or your blog. 🙂

I know – it’s a silent film. I’m just not really sure what the copyright infringement situation is. I see people using popular music in their videos all the time, but I don’t know what’s okay and what’s not. I would obviously give credit to the artist, I’m just not sure if that’s enough. If any of you have advice, leave me comments!

Our new YouTube account is going to be really helpful with blogging, too. We can make our own vids for Make It Mondays, which I’m excited about. Nothing like a little (almost) face to face when it comes to how-tos.

So, do any of you YouTube? We’d love to see your videos!

Share the Love and have a great weekend,

Chelsea

Tuesday’s Treasure – I’d Like Some Catch-Up On My Side Of Thanks

I wanted to catch up on our thanks to the curators who have featured us in their beautiful treasuries over the past month!

Finally, I was feeling in a colorful mood, and paid homage to the blindingly cute Japanese “kawaii” or “cute” style:

There you go! Lots of eye candy to satisfy your cravings. Thanks again to all of the Etsy members who took the time to make these treasuries!
