Whatever Weekend – Whimsical Weddings

Okay, so that’s a lot of alliteration in the title.

Really, though, a friend of mine is planning a wedding, and it has me all nostalgic!

Tom and I have been married nearly 5 and a half years now.

Our wedding was outdoors, with simple fall decorations (lots of plum and green,) and a laid back, picnic-style atmosphere, with a pie bar instead of wedding cake.

Mmmm pie.

It also makes me nostalgic for our friend Tiinia’s wedding. She and her husband, Kevin, were married on the haunt grounds where the work on Friday the 13th. Costumes were encouraged, and the style was a delightful combo of horror and glamorous vintage.

My friend, Tessa, is planning a simple, elegant ceremony, and an Alice in Wonderland themed reception. I’m so excited to help her with decorations for the reception! I’ve loved Alice since I was a little girl, and the possibilities are practically endless.

So, I’ve been working on some inspiration boards on Polyvore.com, a site where you can create your own boards for fashion, beauty, or just for fun.

Here’s some inspiration for her bridal and ceremony style:

Then there’s the reception:

We’ll be thrifting for tea cups, saucers, and pots, clocks, rabbits, and mushrooms, next week.

If you’re planning a wedding, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Keep a check list, and focus on marking one thing off at a time. Here’s a great list that helps you finish each to-do in time: The Knot Wedding Checklist.

2. Create a budget. Once you’ve decided what kind of venue you want (indoor or outdoor, formal or relaxed, etc.,) the kind of food you want to serve, and your wedding style, start working on your budget. If you don’t have all the money you need right now, open a savings account that you can add to each pay period to pay for upcoming costs. Use The Knot Wedding Budget along with your checklist.

3. Ask for help. Ask reliable friends and family to help with tasks you know they can manage. If you have a crafty friend, ask them to help with decorations. If you have an aunt who loves to bake, have her make edible favors, or even the wedding cake if she’s that awesome. Delegate responsibilities to your groomsmen and bridesmaids, like tailoring and dry cleaning, and the bachelor/bachelorette parties. You might feel the need to have your hand in everything to make sure it’s perfect, but it will be worth your sanity (and your beauty sleep!) to accept others’ help.

4. Enjoy your engagement. Make it a point to date during your engagement. Take time away from planning (turn off your electronics if you need to,) and just spend time with your significant other. The engagement flies by, so treasure every second!

Married? What was your wedding like? Any inspiration photos? Any advice you’d like to give brides to be?

Mom is having her much awaited knee replacement on August 12, but look for new Halloween-y items in our shop, JuJuEyeball, very soon!

First show of the season – Art Hunger

Just wanted to share some pictures of our first show of the season, and our first show representing our newest shop, JuJu Eyeball!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The day was slow (we guessed that about 20 customers passed by our booth,) due to little advertising, a festival down the street blocking traffic, and an electrical outage issue on the block. We did make some new vendor friends, and made a couple of great contacts with customers! Mom sold a couple of her sand castings and that was it, but the booth fee was very inexpensive. We ended up spending a little money on ourselves and for Christmas presents, and my husband (while running home to get the purse I forgot, and the wallet he didn’t realize he left at home until he was on his way back) brought one of our good friends back with him, so we ended up having a great time.

Art hungry!

We have almost exactly a month to plan for our booth at Grand Prairie’s Art Hunger show on October 6. It’s a monthly collection of local artists, featured at the Grand Prairie Convention Center in downtown. We’re excited to be doing a show before/near Halloween, something we haven’t done yet. It’s a perfect fit for our other shop, JuJu Eyeball, where we list all of our weird and creepy creations. Our latest listing is Lola; she’s larger than life, and we think you’ll love her as much as we do!

So, here’s to locking ourselves in and working our weird little fingers off!

Tuesday’s Treasure – Green & Gold

Two of Mom’s items have been featured in these beautiful treasuries this week: one of her fascinators, and a vintage lingerie set! Please check them out for inspiration, eye candy, and enchanting gift ideas.

I like the first treasury for it’s muted nude and gold tones – a classic and elegant combination. Nudes and pale pinks are trendy for this fall, and gold is always in style. The second treasury is vivid and magical! I love that green is a popular color this fall – it transitions well into winter, spring, and even into summer. Lord knows I love a piece of clothing that will leave a lasting impression in my closet.

Tuesday’s Treasure – Treasury Jackpot

Beside the flu shot throbbing in my left arm (still – go get one!), this has been a great week. We’ve been fortunate enough to be featured in 4 treasuries since last weekend:

I Wonder If Monkeys And Bats Can Be Friends by alterdelenda

Maintain Simplicity by merriweathercouncil

The Curious Estate of Dr. And Mrs. Jedediah Tinnan, Lot 443 by palimpsestic

Stitching Together The Fabric Of Our Lives by ohlookitsarabbit

I’m not sure what brought on the treasury madness, but I like it!

This week, I’m cleaning up the apartment for a Premiere Jewelry Party I’m hosting for a friend. I’m also getting our Halloween costumes together! I found a cheap Dorothy costume, and am working on the scarecrow costume and background for Trunk Or Treat. After that, all we need is some thrifty clothing for a werewolf costume and we’re set.

Mom and I are getting ready for a yard sale next weekend, which will hopefully be a huge success so she’ll have less to move when she finds a new place. Also hoping the weather stays sunny and cool – prime sale conditions.

Hope everyone is having a great week, too!

Tuesday’s Treasure – Teal Time

Today’s featured treasury displays one of my favorite fall colors – teal. It’s a great transition color, compliments most skin tones, and is much more lively than greys and blacks (even though I have a ton of that in my wardrobe …)

On a side note, I separated my “already on sale” items from my “to sell at the vendor sale” items today. I feel much better! I also went through my Christmas decorations and found 3 grocery bags’ worth of decorations to use at the winter festival. Here’s a sneak peek at the flyers for the event:
