Vending on Haunted Grounds

I snapped some photos of our shared booth space at 13th Street Morgue/Dungeon of Doom last Friday. Stephanie and I had a lot of fun talking to people after they came (running and screaming) out of the haunted house!

Head out to the 13th Street/Dungeon grounds for a good scare for Halloween!

First show of the season – Art Hunger

Just wanted to share some pictures of our first show of the season, and our first show representing our newest shop, JuJu Eyeball!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The day was slow (we guessed that about 20 customers passed by our booth,) due to little advertising, a festival down the street blocking traffic, and an electrical outage issue on the block. We did make some new vendor friends, and made a couple of great contacts with customers! Mom sold a couple of her sand castings and that was it, but the booth fee was very inexpensive. We ended up spending a little money on ourselves and for Christmas presents, and my husband (while running home to get the purse I forgot, and the wallet he didn’t realize he left at home until he was on his way back) brought one of our good friends back with him, so we ended up having a great time.

Art hungry!

We have almost exactly a month to plan for our booth at Grand Prairie’s Art Hunger show on October 6. It’s a monthly collection of local artists, featured at the Grand Prairie Convention Center in downtown. We’re excited to be doing a show before/near Halloween, something we haven’t done yet. It’s a perfect fit for our other shop, JuJu Eyeball, where we list all of our weird and creepy creations. Our latest listing is Lola; she’s larger than life, and we think you’ll love her as much as we do!

So, here’s to locking ourselves in and working our weird little fingers off!

Make It Monday – Paperclip “Chandelier” Project Result

Finally! The paperclip chandelier project is complete:

Colored paperclips and faux multicolored crystals.

The project took about half a day to make. If I had been working from a pattern, it probably wouldn’t have taken as long, but I decided to be brave and go without one. I altered the project by using multicolored paperclips and adding “crystals” – because you can’t have a chandelier without crystals! I eyeballed the size I needed, made the wire hoops, and started linking the paperclips in a triangle/diamond pattern. The hubs came home to a colorful surprise – and he really likes it. Which is good, considering it’s above the desk he uses in the kitchen. Since I already had the steel wire, this project cost me less than $2 in paperclips; well worth the investment.

This is the third and final of the first group of top 3 projects I picked last month. I’m so excited to finish the list and move on to new craft projects! Next Monday, I’ll list my next 3 projects to complete.

What are your top 3 project picks?

Make It Monday – Craft Pick Success #2!

I made my no-sew t-shirt bag, and it turned out great! Find the tutorial here.

I started with a shirt I bought at a garage sale that was quarter sleeve and a little too small for me.

I cut the sleeves off, making sure to cut just outside the side seam, and cut out the neckline, using that strip as my drawstring on the bottom hem.

This craft would be even better using a tank top! The only thing you would have to cut would be the hem, and use some pretty ribbon as the drawstring.

Here’s the result:

My lil' green t shirt bag!

I need to reinforce the shoulder seams, so this bag isn’t completely no-sew. So, like I said, pick a tank top and it will take you no time to make!

Now, let’s see if I can get that paperclip chandelier done …

Friday’s Favorites – Strange Strange Strange

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday! Fridays have a little more meaning than usual (working from home tends to blur the days) now that Tom doesn’t have classes on Fridays. It’s like a 3 day weekend every weekend – pretty awesome.

Here’s a few favorites under our JuJu Eyeball shop name:

Pac Man Ghost Felted Sculpture by fibrous

Hermand Munster Small Canvas Pastel by lollyart

Steampunk Art Print - Hot Air Balloon Steamship by thefiligree

Looking at them, it all has a very dreamlike quality – slightly blurry edges or light blues, greens, greys … makes me sleepy!

Here’s to the end of a week!

Make It Monday – T-Shirt Necklace From My Top 3 Project Picks

Happy Monday!

Last week, I blogged about my top 3 craft picks. (Click for links to tutorials.) My goal is to make them within a month’s time and move on to my next top 3 crafts.

Here’s the first of the 3:

The t-shirt necklace.

It turned out pretty well! This is an easy to make craft, and you only have to use about 5-6 inches of a t-shirt. So, the rest of this shirt became a shrug:

The sleeves were too cute to sacrifice, but the rest of the shirt was a little irregular. Perfect for this project!

This shirt is from a friend who recently cleaned out her closet, and who, coincidentally, gave me this awesome new ‘do last night! It’s actually short on both sides with a long strip down the middle (a “flophawk.”) I’m super excited!

Overall, I’m really happy with the way both projects turned out. I may have to replace the strip of jersey fabric that serves as the “chain” for the necklace with something a little sturdier, or shorten it. It stretched out pretty quickly after wearing it for a few hours. Other than that, I got lots of compliments on it!
