Thoughtful Thursday – Epic Fail?

Paper Ribbon, Awesome by annatorborg

Question of the day: What is success?

Naturally, that leads to the question: What is failure?

Of course, Webster has an answer for you, but don’t bring him up just yet.

People equate success with business, money, status, family, spirituality, or other things. Success usually comes after meeting goals, whether personal, or established by our society. With the exception of spirituality, perhaps, at least from the Christian perspective. I’m learning that success looks very different there.

How do you measure success? I think it directly relates to how me measure and react to failure. Those who find success through failure are usually on the right track, and are driven less insane by the pressures of the world. Be courageous, and don’t be so hard on yourself.

So, success comes in different shapes and sizes – some small, some grand, some born from failure. What’s your greatest success?

For me, it’s probably beginning the process of submission. Mutual submission in my marriage (that is, submission from both sides!) and submission to the will of God. Not an easy task, let me tell ya! Talk about finding success through failure.  I know it doesn’t sound like much of a “success” in the world’s eyes, but, like I said, I’m learning that success from a spiritual perspective looks very different. For me, it’s much more profound than buying that house we want. (Although, I hope we succeed in that, too.)

I hope you have a day chock-full of success!

Whatever Weekend – Ground Control To Major Tom

“Here am I sitting in a tin can/far above the world.”

I’ve been so spaced out today! It could be because Tom and I stayed up late watching youtube videos after a very fun date night of Chinese food, frozen yogurt, and “Bones.” My whole schedule has been off this week, anyway.

Tom did cook breakfast this morning, though, and I was happy he woke me up for it:

French toast on sesame seed bread with bananas and honey.

Then I cleaned part of the apartment today, because, you know, I live on the edge! The desire to decorate is great. Must … resist … online … shopping.

Mom’s broken toe still hurts very much. I went to the grocery store for her (and us) today, went to the post office for her and took the dog out. Hopefully, she’s sleeping the pain away right now. She’s either doing that, or watching “Ghost Hunters.” I definitely get my love for scares from you, Mom. I’m watching “Celebrity Ghost Stories.”

I got to talk to my two best girlfriends today, and will probably spend time with one today, and the other next week. I’ve had a bleak social life since we started interning (I think that’s a verb,) so it’ll be nice to have some girl time. Also, since Spring Break has started, Tom and I will have more free time … even though his will be used for catching up on studying. I can’t say I envy him. For those of you interested in seeing the place I’ve been rambling on about for the past few months, here’s the Tri C:

The entrance to Freebucks, our coffee shop.

We’re working on getting a website made, but in the meantime, we have a Facebook page. If you’re a UT Arlington student, stop by and visit us! We’re open 7:30 a – 10:30 p M-F, and there’s always free coffee, tea, and food. Look for us across from the UC on the North side.

I think that about covers the whatevers of the day. I hope all of you have a great weekend, and a safe and happy Spring break!

Treasure Tuesday – The “Normal” Life

Dear readers,

I didn’t think I would be away from you for so long! I hope you all had wonderful holidays, and that your new year has started well. It’s been since before Christmas that I blogged anything, and there’s so much to tell you!

We’ve moved into the new apartment (almost completely) and are settling in here at the Tri-C (Christian Campus Center.) Today is the first day of classes, so I’m interested to see what it’s like now that the building will have people inside. We’re connected to the coffee and tea house, so the apartment should smell delicious at all times, and there will always be something for me to do, should I need something to do. So far, I have revamped 2 message boards in the building, reorganized/picked up the large bible class and study room, rearranged the billiards room, restocked the pantry with 2 loads of food, and restocked and rearranged all of the tea in the cafe.

Now I’d like to get the apartment decorated, since we plan on having company on a regular basis. In fact, we’ve already had company over at least half as many times as we did at the old apartment. Moving in was no easy feat – the place was in pretty grimy shape. So, after lots of scrubbing, we only need the shower head replaced, the tub caulked, the ceiling in the bath fixed, some ceiling tiles replaced, our oven coil replaced (it tried to light itself on fire!) and the office needs a fresh coat of paint. It looks like a BMX rider tried to do tricks off the wall in there. I’ll post pictures as I make progress on the place!

Next, Mom is moving, too – into our old apartment, conveniently. So, it will just be 2 months of one giant move for us. Lots of lifting with the legs, my friends. I can’t wait to move her stuff this weekend, and then have a giant estate/moving sale the next. I love a good estate sale – especially when it’s your own and you can purge your life of “stuff.”

Now, on to the treasure! Thanks to these wonderful curators for including our jewelry and (one of our newest items) an antique Tennyson collection:
